Alumni presenters will talk about their careers and how a degree in journalism was essential or beneficial. In addition, they will discuss how to best prepare for a career in journalism. They will give practical advice and tips. 9 a.m. Dan Shepard, 2007 graduate. Production Team Editor, The Observer-Dispatch, Utica, N.Y. While a student, worked way up through the Cardinal Points' newsroom, holding positions of reporter, assistant news editor, news editor, lifestyles editor, and editor in chief. Interned at the Press-Republican. Started at current job right out of college. Journalism major and criminal justice minor. 10 a.m. Omar Aquije, 2002 graduate. Education Reporter, The Post-Star, Glens Falls, N.Y. Recipient of several professional journalism awards. As a student, held various posts for Cardinal Points. Was an intern and freelance reporter and photographer at the Press-Republican while a student and after graduating until landing first full-time job in journalism as a general assignment reporter with the Leader-Herald in Gloversville, N.Y. Journalism major. 11 a.m. Jennifer (Coffey) Meschinelli, 1998 graduate. Special Publications Editor, Press-Republican, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and an adjunct lecturer for the SUNY Plattsburgh journalism department. In college, interned at the Poughkeepsie Journal and worked as a stringer at the Press-Republican. In addition, was editor in chief of Cardinal Points. Was part of the group that declared independence and incorporated the newspaper. Has worked professionally as a reporter for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and the Lake Placid News; and has worked as a marketing assistant to a high-end realtor as well as leading a sales team in selling Yellow Page advertisements.
