I believe there is a separate line for a transpo reporter (state team) that's open until Monday. There is also a news design opening (but keep in mind that it's one of the best designed papers in the country, so you will need to have a solid portfolio). Paper is 180,000 daily, 210,000 sunday. I'm out of here in two weeks. Can't even believe how fast the summer moved. Got some good clips (front page today, w00t) and had fun at the beach. It's back to platty at the end of the month for one final round of classes. Hope everyone is doing well. *Staff Writer/Business Team (ports & shipping)*, to replace Greg Richards. (Interim team editor Chris Dinsmore) This reporter will write breaking news, features, explanatory and investigative articles about the ports and related industries, shipbuilding and the business of transportation, including trucking and railroads, in Hampton Roads. *The job code for this position is 2386*. This position will be posted on journalismjobs.com, SABEW, vpa.netand a couple of other places. Closing date is flexible. Outside candidates can apply online at http://www.thevirginianpilot.com/careers. To get your teaching certification, look into the MST program at any university. I, of course, am partial to the program at Plattsburgh. If you go full time, you should be able to finish in about a year and a half. I have to say, however, that if you decide to get your certification, you will be taking graduate level education classes with people already in teaching positions. They have the experience and know the jargon. But don't let that discourage you. Take advantage of it and learn from "the experienced ones." If you are near PSU, talk to Peggy Snowdon (if she's still around) or John Giandomenico. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Best of luck! Cheryl P.S. Oh yeah... as a teacher you will be more in demand than one who has a BA or BS in education. You have a more solid background in the content area. -----Original Message----- From: journalism-alumni-bounces@lists.plattsburgh.edu [mailto:journalism-alumni-bounces@lists.plattsburgh.edu] On Behalf Of journalism-alumni@lists.plattsburgh.edu Sent: Saturday, August 23, 2008 1:53 PM To: journalism-alumni@lists.plattsburgh.edu Subject: [jou-alumni] RE: Back In the Biz Cheryl, It is nice that you are back in the Journalism business. The only problem is that teachers start at $18,500. But the cost of living here is cheaper than many areas in the Northeast. Really!! And the weather's pretty good, too. The Internet hasn't really taken hold here, either. So the daily newspaper is still very strong. Lots of people buy it for the classified section. It's like stepping back in technological time.
